Big things are happening in the Plus Size/Curvy world these days – some of you probably haven’t even realized. It’s important to keep up with what is happening out there in regards to body image, fashion, life, politics, what have you… That is why I created this new feature for the blog, entitled: “Curvy News Update.”

Periodically, I will post a round up of plus size/curvy/full figured focused current news items with a little description/some feedback of my own. Feel free to comment about any of the articles in the comments section. Also, feel free to suggest any news articles I missed.

1. “Old Navy Changes Plus-Size Clothing Policies in Response to Petition”

Recently, Old Navy was challenged regarding the pricing discrepancies for Plus Size Women versus “Straight” Sizes with a petition. Old Navy did make some changes in policy (a plus) but still haven’t changed the policy of different prices for larger women. Watch the video below or read more.

 

 

 

2. Lifetime To Debut New Dating Reality Show ‘Big Women: Big Love’ On New Year’s Day

Big Women: Big Love aims to show the difficulties of dating, especially for plus size women, and provide a ‘unique point of view on their experiences in love and life.'”

3. “A Plus-Size Fashion Designer on Designing for Curvier Women”

Eloquii‘s designer, Jodi Arnold, is interviewed about how she designs for the plus size woman and how she looks to the customers feedback when getting fit and design for the brand.

4. “Is This Plus-Size Trend Actually BAD For Body Image?”

This Refinery 29 article discusses the use of added padding for Plus Size models to fill out sample sizes (14-16). Modeling is a lot about illusion – no matter what your size is, but is this crossing the line? How does this affect body image…? Is this a good or bad thing…? Why are these Plus Size models the standard if they don’t fit the clothing…?

 

“On a shoot where a model might wear dozens of outfits, padding is an easier way to make clothes fit snugly — much like the clothespins that are hidden out of view and used to perfect the fit of garments in high-fashion editorials. 5. “Melissa McCarthy Joins Celebrity Designer Rush”

Actress Melissa McCarthy had a new clothing line in the works that will offer fashion forward items for ALL SIZES including Plus Sizes. The new clothing line will be in partnership with Sunrise Brands (they do the Seven7 plus size line).
