Yesterday I got my hair ‘did,’ and that means I should utilize my professionally coiffed hair as much as possible. That means — photo shoot day!

These pictures were taken in my mom’s back yard, which used to be my grandmother’s back yard. It was quite fitting to be modeling this Red Coach Bucket Purse, because this was the model purse my grandmother used my whole life. As far as I know, she never owned a red version, but when she passed away she had about a half dozen different versions in different colors, textures, and some with flaps. I kept one and I don’t know what my mom did with the rest. I wish I had kept them all, but at least I had the hindsight to keep my favorite brown one (not pictured).

Fashion Design 101

August 6, 2014

Yesterday, I did a second installment in Project Fashion Design at a local library. (Last March I did “Project Prom Dress”.) I have a degree in fashion design, worked as a fashion designer, and it is part of what I do here at The Curvy Elle, so it was a good experience to to do what inspires me, but took me out of my element.

With Project Fashion Design, I run a workshop for teens and pre-teens where I give a background of the design process; I assign them a season and theme (yesterday’s was “Fall/Back to School”); they pick inspiration image(s) from magazines, design a look, sketch it, and render (color) it; and present their design to everyone in the workshop. It was great to see the kids (and a couple of adults who participated) really get into it. This is my career and my passion and it is wonderful to maybe give a little guidance to someone else’s future.
