Key to the Charmed Life

August 30, 2012

Last night I was thinking about this picture of my maternal grandmother and her grandfather. When I was in design school I used this picture as part of my inspiration for a collection. I think my grandmother was either high school age or not long out of high school when this picture was taken.

My mom talked about how her mother adored her grandfather. This definitely comes across in the picture. Even though he looks like a grumpy old man, I’m sure he must have been a softy.

The dress my grandmother is wearing in the picture reminded me of a vintage dress I bought a while back. I never had the opportunity to add it to The Shop, so I figured this picture was acting as the perfect inspiration to take that dress for a spin!

I was desperately in need of an inspirational backdrop, so I headed to a local historical house, museum, and park called Shinn House.

The house dates from the Victorian era and was built by a Quaker family, so it is not quite as ornate as most houses of this time–but I think it’s beautiful all the same! The gardens are gorgeous and meticulously cared for.

Sometimes you need a kick in the butt when you’re stuck in a rut! I was there and I happily pulled myself out of it.

Laziness breeds boring, for sure! SO, if anyone sees me get monotonous, please give me a nice virtual swift  kick the the rear end!
